GAO, MALI, Jan. 25 (ChinaMil) -- The 6th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment and the Senegalese peacekeeping infantry battalion to Mali have successfully completed the construction task of the MOC (Mécanisme Opérationnel de Coordination) camp, for which both sides are jointly responsible, after nine days of work. The construction has directly promoted the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) peace process in Gao, Mali.

It is reported that the main content of the task was to level more than 5,000 square meters of land and build 15 new tents for the camp. In accordance with the project assignments from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), the Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment was responsible for the construction while the Senegalese peacekeeping infantry battalion was responsible for safeguarding the construction area.

The DDR process is an important component of the initial restoration of stability and long-term development in war-torn areas. It aims to promote the security and stability in post-conflict areas in order to begin recovery and development.
