Senior Chinese military officials meet with Cambodian general

BEIJING, Feb. 27 (ChinaMil) -- Xu Qiliang, vice-chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), and General Wei Fenghe, Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister, met with visiting General Hun Manet, Cambodian deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Armed Forces (RCAF) and commander of RCAF Army.

Xu Qiliang said that China and Cambodia are friendly neighbors and genuine die-hard friends for many generations. In recent years, China-Cambodia relations have maintained high-level development under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, and the co-building of the Belt and Road has been increasingly deepened. As an important part of the bilateral relations, the exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and Cambodian militaries have also maintained a rapid growing momentum. China firmly supports Cambodia’s national defense and military building. Both sides share a view that the two countries will contribute more to the development of China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership. China is willing to work with Cambodia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, to maintain high-level exchanges between the two militaries, and to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as joint exercise and training, college education, etc. 

General Hun Manet said that the traditional and long-lasting friendship was fostered by the older generations of leaders on both sides. The Cambodian side thanks China for its support and assistance to the country and its military building. Cambodia is willing to maintain strategic coordination with China, to deepen pragmatic cooperation, to further consolidate the foundation of friendship, and to promote the sustained, in-depth development of the bilateral military ties.

Wei Fenghe said at the meeting that China and Cambodia are traditionally friendly neighbors and brothers. The profound friendship between the two countries has stood the test of time and emerged even stronger despite the changeable international situation. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen reached an important consensus on deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership in order to chart the course for the development of China-Cambodia relations in the new era. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Cambodia at all levels and in various fields and to constantly explore new areas and ways of cooperation, so as to forge a strong bilateral military relationship as an important support for the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and jointly safeguard the fundamental interests of both sides as well as regional security and stability.

General Hun Manet said that the relationship between Cambodia and China reaches its best level with the promotion of leaders of the two countries. The Cambodian side is ready to work with China to further enhance the level of cooperation and promote the continuous development of bilateral relations.
