ALGIERS, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Algerian Defense Ministry on Tuesday announced that the Algerian army used for the first time locally made drones to destroy hideouts of terrorist groups.

The ministry said in a statement that following an aerial reconnaissance carried out by the drone "Algeria 54" on Sunday and Monday, a number of hideouts of terrorist groups were successfully destroyed by two other drones.

The statement added that the drones were already tested in last December under the supervision of Algerian Army Chief of Staff Ahmed Gaid Salah.

"These aircrafts were manufactured in Algeria with national competencies including engineers and technicians of the National People's Army," the statement noted.

The successful operation of the drones confirmed the army's determination to follow up the development of military technology, especially in the field of drones.
