Indian air force sees 27 aircraft down in crashes since 2016

NEW DELHI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government said on Wednesday that its air force have lost 27 aircraft, including 15 fighter jets and helicopters, in crashes since 2016.

The disclosure was made by Indian Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik in a written reply in the lower House of Indian parliament, or the Lok Sabha.

The crashed aircraft include fighter jets, helicopters, transport aircraft and trainers, according to the official.

"In the 2016-17, six IAF fighter jets, two helicopters, one transport aircraft and one trainer crashed. In 2017-18, the air force lost two fighter jets and three transport aircraft in crashes. In 2018-19 with the IAF lost seven fighter jets, two helicopters and two trainers," the minister said.

"This year one crash took place," he added.
