BEIJING, Dec. 3 -- The video seminar of the Beijing Xiangshan Forum concluded in Beijing on December 2. Participating experts from various countries have conducted in-depth exchanges through both online and offline workshops. The theme of “Enhancing International Cooperation: Responding to New International Security Challenges” has been a consensus achieved among participants.

The third panel is themed on “International Cooperation in Non-traditional Security.” Seven Chinese and overseas experts, including Dr. David M. Finkelstein, vice president of the China and Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Division at the US Center for Naval Analyses (CAN), and Victoria V. Panova, Vice-President for International Relations of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) of Russia, have expressed creative viewpoints and made constructive proposals on international cooperation in fields of fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with climate change and environmental protection, counterterrorism, cracking down on cross-border crimes, etc.

During the fourth panel themed on “Trends of Major-power Relations”, experts and scholars including Joseph S. Nye Jr., Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor, Emeritus and former Dean of the Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, Hugh White AO, Emeritus Professor of Strategic Studies at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre of the Australian National University, Yan Xuetong, dean of the Institute of Modern International Relations at Tsinghua University, China, and Zheng Yongnian, Presidential Chair Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen, China, have conducted in-depth exchanges and discussion on China-US relations and a series of important bilateral and multilateral relations.

Adhering to Beijing Xiangshan Forum’s traditional concept of equality, openness, inclusiveness, and mutual understanding, this year’s workshop invited 32 internationally renowned experts from 12 countries to focus on the four major topics: the security situation in the Asia-Pacific, global strategic stability towards the future, international cooperation in non-traditional security, and the trend of major-power relations. They have joint hands in analyzing world trends, predicting security risks, exploring countermeasures, and seeking ways to cooperate.

Experts and scholars involved said that all countries share the same destiny in a community with a shared future. Therefore, no one could only mind his own business in the face of major crises; instead, solidarity and cooperation is the most indispensable choice for dealing with challenges. They hoped that the sponsor would continue to organize more meetings and discussions for experts and scholars from all over the world to have in-depth exchanges and deepen friendship in an effort to contribute wisdom to world peace jointly.

The sponsor stated that the Beijing Xiangshan Forum would continue to work to enhance mutual trust and reduce suspicion, build consensus, and promote cooperation, striving to make greater contributions to promoting world peace and development and maintaining regional security and stability.
