BUDAPEST, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The first border hunter regiment was inaugurated here on Friday.

"Security begins at our borders, and Hungary's security begins with the border hunters," Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared at the ceremony of the establishment of the regiment.

In his speech, Orban said that millions arrived illegally from Africa and the Middle East to Europe, "flouting borders and laws." He stressed that a country without borders is like "an egg without shell," and assured that the Hungarian border protection system was working. "It resists even the highest waves of illegal migration."

More than 162,000 border violators have already been apprehended at the Hungarian border, compared to around 60,000 in the same period last year, and the number of people-smugglers doubled compared to the same period of the previous year, according to official data.

Migrants are trying to enter Hungary more and more violently and regularly, which leads to the setting of border hunting units.

The government on Tuesday extended the crisis situation caused by mass immigration until March 7, 2023.
